About the area / Things to do
Southdown Barns is just one mile from the picturesque coastal town of Brixham, Devon. Brixham is based around an old harbour that still operates as a working fishing port. Fresh daily catches of fish can be bought straight off the boat to be eaten that day. Or, for the more adventurous, why not arrange a fishing trip and go out for the day, while the children enjoy catching crabs just off the harbour wall.
A five mile drive from Brixham takes you to Kingswear where you can catch the five minute car ferry over to Dartmouth. Dartmouth has old cobbled, narrow streets where you can visit galleries, individual shops, delicatessens and restaurants selling local Devon produce.
There are amazing coastal and scenic walks. The beach at the foot of the property is maintained by The National Trust and is a natural sanctuary for birds and wildlife. The South Coast Walk also goes through this beach and continues along the coast. In the area are fantastic beaches and National Trust houses, and gardens all within easy reach. Further afield there is Dartmoor national park and day trips are more than possible for the rest of Devon and Cornwall.
